Mae ABN [ABN] (“Mae”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and store your personal information when you use the Mae application and website at askmae.com.au (“Platform”).

We handle your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). By using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

1. What Personal Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

When you create an account or interact with Mae, we may collect:

  • your name and email address;

  • account login credentials;

  • information about your pregnancy or postpartum stage (if you choose to provide it);

  • any content you submit, search, or save within the Platform; and

  • communications you send to us, including support enquiries.

1.2 Information collected automatically

When you use the Platform, we automatically collect certain technical information, including:

  • your device type, operating system, and browser;

  • IP address and approximate location (country or region);

  • pages visited, features used, and time spent on the Platform; and

  • crash reports and performance data to help us improve the service.

1.3 Sensitive information

Some information you provide — such as details about your health, pregnancy, or postpartum experience — may constitute sensitive information under the Privacy Act. We will only collect sensitive information with your consent and only to the extent necessary to provide the Platform’s features. We will never sell sensitive information to third parties.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information to:

  • create and manage your account;

  • provide, personalise, and improve the Platform and its features;

  • respond to your support requests and communications;

  • send you service-related notifications and, where you have opted in, product updates or newsletters;

  • analyse usage patterns to understand how the Platform is used and where it can be improved;

  • detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, security incidents, or activity that violates our Terms and Conditions; and

If Mae is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

3.4 No sale of personal information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes.

4. Overseas Disclosure

Some of our third-party service providers may store or process data outside Australia (for example, cloud infrastructure located in the United States or Europe). Where we disclose personal information to overseas recipients, we take reasonable steps to ensure those recipients handle your information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

5. Data Storage and Security

We store your personal information on secure servers and implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect it against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration. These measures include encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews.

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Platform and comply with our legal obligations. If you close your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, unless we are required by law to retain it.

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The Platform may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve your experience, remember your preferences, and analyse usage. You can control cookie set

We do not use tracking technologies to build advertising profiles or share your data with advertising networks.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;

  • request that we correct inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated information;

  • request that we delete your personal information, subject to any legal obligations we have to retain it;

  • withdraw consent to the collection or use of certain information (noting this may affect your ability to use some features); and

  • opt out of receiving marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or contacting us directly.

9. Children’s Privacy

Mae is intended for use by adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate parental consent, we will delete that information promptly.

10. Links to Third-Party Sites

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through the Platform.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, notify you via email or in-app notification.

Your continued use of the Platform after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

If you believe we have not handled your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act or the Australian Privacy Principles, you may lodge a complaint with us by contacting hello@askmae.com.au. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and work to resolve it within 30 days.
